A recent study of older adults living in the US finds that one-third of people over the age of 65 are living with dementia or mild cognitive impairment, with women and people of color experiencing a disproportionate impact. While each of our GIA member organizations supports programs for older adults, the stigma surrounding dementia can mean that cognitive issues are seldom explicitly raised in our discussions.
With age as the number one risk factor for dementia, and people living longer than ever before, our field faces a range of challenges when it comes to ensuring that our communities are welcoming to people of all cognitive abilities. Join John Zeisel, founder of the I’m Still Here Foundation, and Marilyn Raichle, Executive Director for Maude’s Awards for Innovation in Alzheimer’s Care, for this Member Meet Up to discuss approaches we all can take to raise awareness and actively engage and support our constituents living with dementia and their care partners.
